EPISODE 7 SHOW NOTES
In this month’s episode, I was excited to talk with Dr. Lindsay Durand Massumi, a licensed pelvic health and orthopedic physical therapist and health coach. The topic of pelvic health has gained a great deal of traction over the last few years, and it’s something that so many people are turning to (and can truly benefit from). Lindsay was first introduced to the pelvic health world after seeing her sister have incredible success with pelvic floor PT during her pregnancy. She quickly fell in love with everything that could be achieved with pelvic floor therapy, and now considers it her life’s passion as she supports her patients in the pelvic health space.
Lindsay and I dive into the benefits of being proactive instead of reactive with pelvic floor PT care, who actually needs pelvic floor therapy, red flags to look for when you’re postpartum and considering pelvic floor PT, pelvic floor exercises you can do in your everyday life, and more.
While Lindsay has loved the work she gets to do in the pelvic health space for awhile now, she’s been even MORE grateful for it as she’s gone through her own pregnancy, and is now a mother herself. Navigating the world of pelvic health doesn’t have to be daunting; if this is something you’ve been curious to learn more about, you won’t want to miss all of the knowledge and goodness Dr. Lindsay has to share in this episode!
Dr. Lindsay Durand Massumi, PT, DPT, is a licensed pelvic health and orthopedic physical therapist and health coach practicing in Northern Virginia. She is the co-owner of Virtual Physio, an innovative boutique-style physical therapy and wellness practice. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from Creighton University in Omaha, NE, and a Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the prestigious Washington University in St. Louis Medical School. Before becoming a physical therapist, Dr. Lindsay worked as a personal trainer and strength and conditioning coach, which helped her discover her passion for strength training and teaching women to lift weights. She has nearly a decade of experience in personal training and coaching athletes of all ages. Having experienced pelvic floor dysfunction herself, Dr. Lindsay understands how impactful rehabbing your pelvic floor can be; for her, it was life-changing. With her clients, Dr. Lindsay uses a combination of movement analysis, prescriptive exercise, and manual techniques (myofascial release, dry needling, taping, IASTM, and more) to help people get out of pain fast and achieve long-lasting results.
